that made the Class A Championship possible and thank you for the
memories of 1965 that will live in our hearts forever.

Football Stadium to be Renamed...
The
Wills Point High School Football Stadium was named "Ken Autry
Davis Field" in a special halftime ceremony at Homecoming on
September 23, 2005. During the 40th anniversary celebration of their state
championship, special recognition was given to members of the 1965 football
team. Anyone who was coached by, played with or coached with Coach Davis
was asked to assemble by the concession stand during the second quarter
to be recognized as a group during the halftime ceremony.
The Early Years...
Davis
played his high school football at W.P.H.S. where he was an All-State
Running Back in 1955 before attending Stephen F. Austin University.
Ken Autry Davis played for Stephen F. Austin University
in the late 1950's and early 1960's. He started as halfback for the Lumber
Jacks for 3 years, lettered 4 years in football, and 2 years in track.
He received the SFA Todd Award for Outstanding Athlete in 1961. He was
also named to the All Texas College Football Team in 1961.
Back
in Wills Point...
He became head football coach at Wills Point in 1964. A
short two years later, at the age of 27, he won the Class "A" State Championship
in 1965 played against White Deer in Coyote Stadium in Wichita Falls.
Wills Point's State Team had a perfect 15-0 record. Davis coached his
entire career at Wills Point, establishing a record of 187 wins and 83
losses.
